Zoological Research Center Alexander König (ZFMK) in Bonn

The Leibniz Institute for Biodiversity of animals at the zoological research museum Alexander König in Bonn (ZFMK) plans to concentrate its forces with an extension building at the Bonn Poppelsdorf campus. agn is responsible for the planning of the property.
The committee praised the design by agn and the elegant retentivity of the research building. "The adequacy of the division, structure and material is exemplary for the numerous projects to follow at the Poppelsdorf Campus," said Professor Rolf Westerheide, chairman of the design committee.
In the main focus the compact new building with its two inner courtyards will offer adequate room facilities to the center of molecular biodiversity research. The highly complex space program comprises, among other things, a computer center, wet laboratories, a bio bank, a cryo store and collection areas.
Following a special request of the client the agn team has developed profile glazing for the facades with cast glass elements whereby individual wood elements dominate the design and generate a vivid overall picture.
